Here are my 10 favourite books that I've read this year so far! A new video is up on my YouTube channel discussing why these titles are so memorable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ14i_j7F8M
I've read around 70 books so far this year which is a higher amount than usual. But running a book club has really fuelled my desire to read more than ever. It's also deepened my appreciation for certain titles since I've spent so much time thinking about and discussing certain books such as “Under the Eye of the Big Bird” and “The Book of Disappearance”. Reading “The Adversary” was an utterly immersive experience and it was also such a thrill to see its author Michael Crummey win the Dublin Literary Award which I attended in Ireland and to briefly interview him. It was also such a joy to interview Joyce Carol Oates again and discuss her new novel “Fox”.
These stories range from a protagonist inspired by the Bloomsbury Group, a pair of artistic friends meditating on how to memorialise those who have been executed by their government, an adult man's challenging reconciliation with his estranged mother, a writer's harrowing and inspiring tale growing up in Britain's care system, a rural community torn apart by a brother and sister's rivalry, a nation which must reckon with the reality of loss when an entire section of its people vanish, wildly funny and smart stories of trans experience, the daily challenges of a woman determined to find independence from her domineering husband, an epic account of the evolution of the human race over thousands of years alongside artificial intelligence and a mystery concerning the disappearance of a parasitic but much beloved teacher.
Have you read any of these books? What are the best books you've read so far this year (they don't need to be recently published)? I'd love your recommendations.
